Whilst at the HSRCA Summer Festival, I had the chance to interview Dr Michael Henderson, a motor sport safety pioneer.
Dr Henderson developed a number of technologies now widely used on the track and for road use – the six-point racing harness was one example and he worked on the concept of the child safety capsule for road cars.
He also worked on an F1 concept car designed purely for maximum safety in conjunction with Pininfarina and Ferrari – the Sigma Concept. Many of the ideas created for this car are now part of motor sport design in many categories.
It was a fascinating interview with a backdrop of historic racing, so occasionally the cars do take centre stage!
