This is another interview from the series recorded with the volunteers of the Australian Motor Heritage Foundation. These interviews were recorded earlier in the year at their headquarters on the outer edge of Sydney Motorsports Park.
This time the interviewee is David Burrell who after a successful corporate career went to work as a journalist and author. David started with speedway (something he already wrote about) and then focused on the unsung heroes of car design in Australia.
We talk about his RetroAutos magazine on the Shannons website plus the books on design that he has published. We then move on to discuss the work of Herbert Thomson, who designed, built and marketed an Australian car way back in 1899 – just over a decade after Karl Benz introduced his motorwagen.
Finally we talk about the importance of the Foundation to not only historic vehicle heritage but also the country. So many people have been employed in some form in the automotive industry, that it is important to retain the documentation, video and audio.
It is a great discussion for the historic road and race community!
