A few weeks ago, Motoring Weekly wrote about JETCharge and their new charging network that they intend to roll out from Brisbane to Adelaide covering the major road on the east coast of Australia. This is a challenge that Better Place tried some years ago and failed, however the JETCharge concept not only has legs, it has backers and it is at a time when electric vehicle sales are growing.
With new entrants on the market to challenge Tesla, such as ACE EV, Nissan and Jaguar, the market is expanding and now the necessity for an ever expanding network is critical to encouraging the purchase of these vehicles.
At the end of May, Chargefox, the charging network, announced a tie-up with Jaguar to give owners of their electric vehicles five years of unlimited charging for free! This applies only to the ultra-rapid stations that are being installed. Currently there are three of them, however Chargefox has a plan to install another 19 by the end of 2019. They are expecting to have eight stations in operation by the end of July, so this gives Jaguar Australia a good reason to sell more cars to close out the financial year!
The ultra-rapid station can fill a battery to 80% in about 40 minutes and will get up to 100km of range in the first 15 minutes. For many owners that will be sufficient to get home. All the charging stations are powered by renewable energy sources which improves the reason why the stations should be used. The three current ultra-rapid stations are in Toombul Shopping Centre in Brisbane, Barnawatha and Euroa in north Victoria.
